When it comes to pull and I mean pulling subscribers in, Howard Stern is not only the King of All Media, Stern is the King of All Pull. Red Herring notes that Howard Stern has more pull than XM Satellite Radio’s Oprah Winfrey.
Sirius announced that subscribers increased by 441,101 to 5,119,308 for the third quarter. XM Radio reported it increased subscriber numbers by 285,000 to more than 7,185,000 in the third quarter.
Clearly, Sirius has the momentum in subscriber growth and when you add that to the release of the Sirius Stiletto 100 in recent days, I believe we will see explosive growth for Sirius in the fourth quarter.
Its obvious to me that the Stern Effect is real and Red Herring agrees. Red Herring Noted that “Shock jock Howard Stern, whose daily radio programming runs on two Sirius channels, may claim part of the jolt in subscription numbers.”
Its a no-brainer as far as Im concerned.
In recent weeks, Stern has been the victim of a smear attack that appears to be led by the powers that be in the terrestrial radio industry. From vicious rumors that Stern is returning to terrestrial radio, to personal attacks on Stern relating to advertising rates he currently demands, Stern has been holding tough.
With Sirius latest subscriber growth attributed to Howard Stern, look for the attacks on Stern to escalate.
